U.S. Military Probing Shoot’em Up Iraq Video

By Tim | December 9, 2005 | Tags: Middle East |

The Washington Post says the U.S. military is probing a video that surfaced on the internet and purports to show indiscriminate weapons fire directed at Iraqi civilians:

Washington Post—”Aegis has established a formal board of enquiry, in cooperation with the U.S. military authorities, to investigate whether the footage has any connection with the company and, should this prove to be the case, under what circumstances any incident took place,” the company said in a statement about the incident.

A public relations representative for Aegis said the company’s findings could come within the next week.

“An investigation has been initiated, but we do not have any details at this time,” Army Capt. Bill Roberts, a U.S. military spokesman, said in an e-mail message Thursday. . . .

There’s audio on the tape, but I can’t make out what’s being said and the tape has obviously been dubbed with some music.

Update (12/9/2005 10:32am):

The Jawa Report says, “Of course, the context the MSM doesn’t report on is that these vehicles have enormous signs on them warning other vehicles to stay back or they will be fired on. Still, the video does not look good and I applaud the military for looking into the matter.”
