Turbulent Air For The Air Force Academy

Back on November 18th, I penned an article about Lt. Gen. Rosa’s belief that AFA cadets were ‘too religious’:

Opinionbug—Don’t worry about the rapes or other problems the AFA has, because Gen. Rosa is going to save the AFA from the those intolerant “Christians.” Gen. Rosa apparently wants an atmosphere free of religion so that non-religious cadets won’t feel “pressured.” I suppose that an atmosphere comprised of beer swilling, cursing, and sex is quite ok with the good general. Nevermind how the Christians will feel pressured by that lifestyle.

Well, it has happened again—a cadet has been accused of rape and alcohol was involved:

Air Force Academy—An Air Force Academy cadet accused of raping a female cadet may have been so drunk that he mistakenly had sex with the accuser rather than his girlfriend, according to testimony Tuesday.

Senior Cadet Benjamin Kuster is accused of raping the woman, who graduated from the academy last June, after a drunken party on a diving club field trip to Santa Rosa, N.M., in May.

I’ll say it again, “In my opinion, General Rosa has his priorities backward.” I do not believe that a culture of Christianity is at the root of the AFA’s problem, a lack of ‘moral and ethical’ instruction at the AFA is the problem.

I’m not at all convinced that the AFA has become ‘Christianized’ and that non-believers are being marginalized. The Colorado Springs Gazette today released more details about the accusation that Christians are marginalizing non-believers at the AFA:

Colorado Springs Gazette—The second lieutenant filed a complaint with the Air Force Inspector General’s Office a week before his June graduation documenting four years of discrimination against nonbelievers and non-Christians.

The complaint outlined a culture “systematically biased against any cadet that does not overtly espouse Christianity.”

Is Christianity at the academy the problem or is a lack of ethics at the academy the problem—you decide….
