Dutch Government Falls After Hirsi Ali Controversy

By Tim | June 30, 2006 | Tags: EU |

Immigration minister Rita Verdonk wanted to withdraw Hirsi Ali’s passport over revelations that she lied on her Asylum request. D66 withdrew from the cabinet when the demand was refused, fracturing a fragile coalition of parties and leading to the fall of the current government led by Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.
