Report Of US Helicopters Down Near Taji

The US military is investigating reports of one and perhaps two helicopters being shot down near Taji, Iraq:

Houston Chronicle—The military said today it was investigating reports of a U.S. helicopter going down north of Baghdad.

The statement came after police and witnesses reported that at least one helicopter had been shot down today in the area surrounding Taji, an air base 12 miles north of the capital. Some witnesses described two helicopters going down. …

FOX News reports that the US military has confirmed the shootdown of an Apache helicopter. No word on the crew.

Looks like the crew didn’t survive the crash; remember the families of these men and keep them in your prayers

Both crewman have been officially identified. They are:

  • Chief Warrant Officer Jason Garth DeFrenn, Barnwell, South Carolina
  • Chief Warrant Officer Keith Yoakum, Hemet, California

CWO Defrenn and CWO Yoakum were assigned to 1st BN, 227th Aviation Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division.
