Abortion Freak-Out

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton addressed the annual conference of the Family Planning Advocates of New York State today. The senator restated her support for abortion ‘rights’, but labeled abortion a “sad, even tragic choice to many, many women”:

The New York Times—ALBANY, Jan. 24 – Proposing new political language about abortion rights for the Democratic Party, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton said today that friends and foes on the issue should come together on “common ground” to reduce the number of “unwanted pregnancies” and ultimately abortions, which she called a “sad, even tragic choice to many, many women.”

The New York Times stated that some in the audience felt that her language and themes seemed politically calculated to deal with the abortion “freak-out” among Democrats.

The Democratic Party having an abortion “Freak-out” over Election 2004 results is a good thing and by Senator Clinton’s remarks I would venture to say that the Democratic Party has learned some difficult lessons and is putting them into action.

Update (01/25/2005 07:08am):

Michelle Malkin has excellent follow up on Senator Clinton’s rightward shift.
