NATO Launches Operation Achilles In Afghanistan

NATO has launched its largest combined offensive in Afghanistan’s Helmand province:

Telegraph—Nato and Afghan forces have launched their largest combined offensive against the Taliban in southern Afghanistan.

The operation, involving around 5,500 Nato and Afghan troops, was launched at the request of the Afghan government and is mainly concentrated in northern Helmand. …

NATO says the operation will “focus on improving security in areas where Taliban extremists, narco-traffickers and other elements are trying to de-stabilize the Government of Afghanistan.” Operation Achilles also aims to enable the Afghan government to begin the Kajaki project it said.
