Famed Calligrapher Shot Dead In Baghdad

Famed calligrapher, Khalil al-Zahawi, has been shot dead in Baghdad:

BBC—One of the Muslim world’s leading calligraphers has been shot dead by gunmen in Baghdad.

Khalil al-Zahawi was the most famous practitioner in Iraq of the art of writing classical Arabic script. …

The BBC piece says the attack will be viewed as “another attack on culture and learning by insurgent groups … .”

This looks much like what Chairman Mao did to the Chinese. With no intellectuals, the people are much easier to control.
