Magnitude 7.5 Earthquake Hits Java

By Tim | August 8, 2007 | Tags: , South-eastern Asia |

A preliminary magnitude 7.4 earthquake has hit Java. The earthquake’s epicenter is only 65 miles from Jakarta, but its hypocentral depth is deep, occurring at almost 180 miles beneath the surface, which I believe may mitigate its destructiveness.

The original intensity of the earthquake has been revised upward from 7.4 to magnitude 7.5.
