Michelle Malkin has an update on Second Lt. Ilario G. Pantano’s case:
Michelle Malkin—Here’s what Gittins thinks is going on: “I think it is because they are embarrassed by the fact they have charged him with premeditated murder….They are looking for a way out.”
Yep.
It doesn’t sound like Lt. Pantaro is out of the woods yet …
Update (2/17/2005 6:52am):
WorldNetDaily has a terrific story about Second Lt. Ilario G. Pantano and the intense battles the Marines were involved in on the outskirts of Fallujah as well as his frustration over orders to pull back from the fight:
WorldNetDaily—The story showed 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano’s deep frustration with high-level decisions as forces preparing in late April for an onslaught of the terrorist-stronghold were ordered to pull back. …
“From afar,” Quinn-Judge wrote, “the fighting in and around Fallujah since the Marines laid siege to the city a month ago appears to be a series of brief skirmishes and sporadic gunfights. But it doesn’t look that way to anyone who spent time on the ground with the Marines of Easy Company. The Marines are at war with a well-organized and relentless enemy.” …

This is political placation and rubbush at its finest, we are at war!
Like everyone else, it makes me upset that people are second guessing someone else’s decision. Cops have it done to them all the time as well as military people in a combat zone. These types of people will not change so they will stay in a quagmire of ignorance. I have seen good people brought up on bogus charges and sent to prison. It makes me sick. The military justice system is not accountable so if an attorney really screws up OH WELL. You can’t sue for malicious prosecution though I wish you could. Then maybe some of these pencil pushers will think twice about arbitraily screwing someone’s career over for no reason other than they can.
Lt. Pantano I do not know you. Even though I have been in the Army for 22 years now I can say that I would be proud to follow you into hell. I wish some of our own officer’s had your leadership skills.
In closing, I have read some of the comments your fellow Marines have posted in support of you. They are loyal and I along with those Marines are positive you will be acquitted of these horrible charges. And those that brought them will be prosecuted as they are the REAL criminals.
