New Study Released On Hispanic Voters
The Pew Hispanic Center released a new study today entitled “Hispanics and the 2004 Election: Population, Electorate and Voters.”
The study found that between the 2000 and 2004 elections, the Hispanic population grew by 5.7 million persons representing 50 percent of total US population growth during the same period. That growth, however, did not translate into significant political gains for Hispanics because 63 percent were ineligible to vote being either too young or lacking citizenship.
Support among Hispanic Protestants (mostly evangelicals) grew for President Bush. Fifty-six percent of them cast their votes for Bush during the 2004 election compared to 44 percent during the 2000 election. No change was experienced among Hispanic Catholics with Bush’s share of their vote remaining steady at 33 percent.
Among female Hispanics, support for President Bush also grew which I believe should bode well for republicans.
The study is quite interesting so check it out if you get the chance.
