Haley R. Hilderbrand Killed By Tiger

Seventeen year old Haley R. Hilderbrand was killed August 18th by a tiger at Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary. CBS has an indepth story about the attack along with a video about Haley:

CBS—A Siberian tiger attacked and killed a teenage girl who was posing for a picture at an animal sanctuary Thursday morning, authorities said.

The Labette County Sheriff’s office identified the victim as Haley R. Hilderbrand, 17, of Altamont. Hilderbrand was at the Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary posing for a photo with the 7-year-old tiger, which was being restrained by its handler, when the animal turned and attacked her. [. . .]

The Joplin Globe has a story that details the attack that killed Haley:

Joplin Globe—Doug Billingsly was holding a chain hooked to the tiger’s collar and Hilderbrand was straddling the tiger near the end of the photo shoot when the tiger licked her foot, startling the girl.

Hilderbrand jumped and yanked her foot away and either squealed or screamed, startling the tiger which stood up and knocked Hilderbrand to the ground. The tiger then turned and hit Hilderbrand’s head with its paw, possibly breaking her neck. [. . .]
