NC Journalist Fired Over Profiling Piece

By Tim | September 15, 2005 | Tags: General |

The Daily Tar Heel fired journalist Jillian Bandes over an op-ed piece she wrote about profiling Arabs:

Daily Tar Heel—I want all Arabs to be stripped naked and cavity-searched if they get within 100 yards of an airport.

I don’t care if they’re being inconvenienced. I don’t care if it seems as though their rights are being violated.

I care about my life. I care about the lives of my family and friends. [. . .]

Chris Coletta at the Daily Tar Heel says he fired Jillian Bandes because she “strung together quotes out of context” and she “misled those sources when she conducted interviews.”
