Night Stalker: Carl Kolchak Is Back!

By Tim | September 30, 2005 | Tags: Entertainment |

Did anyone catch the premiere of ABC’s “Night Stalker” last night? Oh man, it was awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed the remake of the 70s show that starred Darren McGavin.

The new series stars Stuart Townsend as “Carl Kolchak.” Stuart did a heck of job in the season opener that co-starred Gabrielle Union as “Perri Reed,” Eric Jungmann as “Jain McManus” and Cotter Smith as “Tony Vincenzo.” The original “Night Stalker” series was one of my favorite programs when I was a kid and the new series is well on its way to being my number show now.

But back to last night’s episode, what was that creature? I initially thought it must be a werewolf, but later scenes had it resembling a cross between a chupacabra and a coyote so I don’t know. That thing was hellish though. I was literally on the edge of my seat while Kolchak, Perri and Jain searched a cave for the missing girl.

“Night Stalker” to me is like a breath of fresh air for nighttime television. I’ve had enough shows about terrorist plots to destroy America and I relish the return to the genre of scary flicks we watched and loved as kids. Great Job ABC, keep’em coming.

Let’s see now, how many more days until the next episode . . .

Update (9/30/2005 7:48pm):

I’ve been reading that a lot of folks aren’t happy with Gabrielle Union and Eric Jungmann on the show. Do you think they were that bad? I thought the interaction between the three was right on last night.
