Presidential Election: Some Observations
This morning I tuned my radio to NPR to hear what they were saying. I was a ‘little’ disappointed, because what I heard was European Elitist slamming Americans for not ‘understanding’ John Kerry. I believe Americans understood John Kerry all too well.
There was the expected talk of a ‘divided America’, fears of evangelical Christians, and a little talk of working together. Americans confiding their fears and concerns to each other doesn’t worry me, I’m glad to hear Americans being honest with each other; what does concern me are the European Elite that slam Americans for ‘not understanding.’ While not actually saying it, they are conveying their belief that most Americans are stupid and uneducated; only those that voted for John Kerry and listen to Europe are enlightened.
One common theme I seem to be hearing is ‘moral values.’ Liberals are gradually understanding that the election was about more than Iraq and the economy. Moral issues were foremost in the minds of most voters in this election with Iraq and the economy coming in a close 2nd and 3rd. Americans voted their morality, not necessarily their pocket books. Americans are concerned about where their country is going morally and they said so at the polls yesterday.
Morality may be what Europe doesn’t understand, they shook off their morals like a worn out garment a long time ago. When Europe decides to take a step towards understanding morality, then perhaps they may begin to understand what is truly going on in America. There is a hollowness in the soul of a nation that abandons its morals and all the power and money in the world isn’t enough in the vacuum it creates. I believe Americans were feeling that when they voted yesterday, November 2nd, 2004.
More later.
