7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Near Nicobar Islands

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake has occurred near India’s Nicobar islands in the Indian ocean. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says a tsunami watch has been issued for INDIA, INDONESIA, SRI LANKA, MYANMAR, THAILAND, and MALAYSIA. The earthquake was centered at 7.702°N, 91.975°E.

Emirates Flight EK530 Terrifying Plunge

Emirates flight EK530 experienced a terrifying 200 ft. plunge today enroute to Kochi, India. The Boeing 777 was apparently flying through turbulent air when it hit an air pocket that resulted in a 200 ft. plunge for the aircraft. Navy Decommissions USS Kitty Hawk

The Navy has decommissioned USS Kitty Hawk. “Kitty Hawk had been the Navy’s oldest active warship since 1998 and turns over the title to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65). India Tests Nuclear Capable Prithvi-II

India has conducted a successful test of its improved Prithvi-II nuclear capable missile. Express India says that “India on Wednesday successfully test-fired an improved version of nuclear-capable ‘Prithvi-II’ ballistic missile with a range of 350 km from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, about 15 km from Balasore, off the Orissa coast.”

Journalist Uma Singh was hacked to death Sunday night by attackers armed with Khukuris. A recent article she published may have led to her death. Singh reported on women’s issues. GroundReport has photographs of her. Makunda says Singh was “killed at her house Sunday evening.”
