A magnitude 7.9 earthqauke has rocked Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake was centered at 0.797°S, 99.925°E which is about 30 miles from Padang. Its hypocentral depth was set at 52.8 miles. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has issued a tsunami watch for Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and India.
A tsunami has hit American Samoa following a 7.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred a little over 130 miles from the capital city of Pago Pago. Lt. Assaf Ramon—son of Israeli Astronaut Ilan Ramon—was killed Sunday when his F-16 crashed in Hebron. Astronaut Ilan Ramon was killed in 2003 when Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated while re-entering Earth’s atmosphere. Heartfelt condolences go out to Assaf’s family and friends. Rest in peace.
