Presidential Debate #1, midstream analysis

Kerry is showing his superior debating abilities, watching and listening to Bush is painful.

Kerry has a magic wand that, if elected, he will wave and solve the black hole mess we call Iraq. Wow, click my heels three times and I’m back in Kansas.

Bush simply responds that Kerry is denigrating someone and the Command in Chief can’t do that.

Let’s just call this one a total loss, we’ll get it right in debate #2.

China tells its army to be ready for war

The World Community continues to hear again and again from China that it is going to pound Little Taiwan if it ever declares independence.

Beijing, September 30: Chinese Communist Party chief and President Hu Jintao has urged the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to prepare for a military struggle, but stopped short of singling out rival Taiwan as the target.

Pardon my impertinence, but I believe that a country with thousands of years of experience could find a better way to reunite itself with its “wayward” neighbor other than by “blowing it up.” Still, a peaceful reunification is difficult to see. The cultures of China and Taiwan are so distant from each other that reunification would certainly require a heavy hand.

Too much “face” is now involved for China to “let bygones be bygones” and armed conflict seems almost certain. It is doubtful that the United States would actually engage China to save Taiwan, bogged down in Iraq as it is. Taiwan will stand or fall on its own. Should Taiwan fall, the World will express its outrage and that’ll be the end of things and the world will move on…

Taiwan is free and should remain free, but neither party appears to have an answer to peacefully end the current impasse. The problem is that everyone is thinking ‘inside the box’, China and Taiwan should perhaps accept someone far removed from their dispute and be willing to consider their recommendations. It should be obvious to all that the impasse is not any closer to a resolution today than it was decades ago.

President Hu Jintao, there is another way; there has to be Sir.

Merck Announces Voluntary Worldwide Withdrawal of VIOXX®

I remember using VIOXX® some years ago, I never felt very well taking it so I discontinued its use. It was a good decision as it is now being linked to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J., Sept. 30, 2004 – Merck &. Co., Inc. today announced a voluntary worldwide withdrawal of VIOXX® (rofecoxib), its arthritis and acute pain medication. The company’s decision, which is effective immediately, is based on new, three-year data from a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial, the APPROVe (Adenomatous Polyp Prevention on VIOXX) trial.

“The end of the Beginning?”

I pray this is the spark to bring some sort of peace, and the freeing of Palestinian hearts and minds…

As Churchill said after the British defeated the German ‘Afrika Korps’ in Egypt: Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

Al-Qaeda and MS-13 gang collaboration

A Washington Times article today revealed that Al-Qaeda is seeking ties with MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha), a violent Salvadoran gang:

A top al Qaeda lieutenant has met with leaders of a violent Salvadoran criminal gang with roots in Mexico and the United States — including a stronghold in the Washington area — in an effort by the terrorist network to seek help infiltrating the U.S.-Mexico border, law enforcement authorities said.

U.S. President George Bush contends in a NewsMax article “that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region. ”

What concerns me is not the guy looking for a job, but the guy looking to blow up something in the United States. The United States simply has to do a better job protecting its borders. Picking up some illegals here or there probably will not catch the Al-Qaeda operatives that are paying big money to be smuggled in.

Protecting Arafat

WorldNetDaily is reporting that the FBI is refusing to return files to former NSA analyst James J. Welsh. Welsh has said he intercepted a transmission from Arafat ordering the execution of two US diplomats and one Belgian in Sudan during 1973.

It is beyond understanding why the United States continues to protect “select” individuals engaged in terrorism and even less understandable is why the United States continues to give political asylum to Chechen terrorists.

Healthy Eggs

Dr. Mercola today discussed some of the findings of an American Journal of Clinical Nutrition study, to be released in October, that should allay the public’s fear of egg consumption increasing their risk of heart disease.

There continues to be a major fear from most of the population that eating eggs will increase their cholesterol levels and their risk of dying from a heart attack. Next month’s American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has a study that helps to put this myth to rest…

It seems to me that foods causing disease increasingly points back to man-made foods, not the foods that nature provides. Go ahead, enjoy an egg…
