A magnitude 7.7 earthquake has occurred near India’s Nicobar islands in the Indian ocean. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says a tsunami watch has been issued for INDIA, INDONESIA, SRI LANKA, MYANMAR, THAILAND, and MALAYSIA. The earthquake was centered at 7.702°N, 91.975°E.

The island of Haiti was rocked by a powerful earthquake this afternoon measuring magnitude 7. The earthquake was situated at 18.451°N, 72.445°W and had a hypocentral depth of 6.2 miles. A micro-earthquake hit North Carolina Saturday. The temblor measured magnitude 2.5 and was situated at 35.301°N, 82.500°W. The hypocentral depth of the earthquake was set at 3.2 miles. The earthquake occurred in the same vicinity as a 3.1 magnitude earthquake in December of 2007.

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has rocked Northern Georgia. The earthquake was centered at 42.712°N, 43.483°E which is about 4 miles from Gebi, Georgia. The hypocentral depth of the earthquake was set at 6.2 miles by program. An aftershock measuring magnitude 5 has rocked the area again. No word on damage or injuries.

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake occurred near Crete, Greece this morning. The earthquake was centered at 34.188°N, 25.426°E. The hypocentral depth was set at 23.6 miles. Independent Online says the temblor was felt as far away as Cairo, Egypt. The USGS has lowered the magnitude of the earthquake to 6.4 from 6.7. Still a whopper though. [...]

A magnitude 3.3 earthquake hit the Dallas-Ft. Worth area this morning. The temblor was centered at 32.796°N, 97.091°W which looks to be about mid way between Dallas and Ft. Worth. The hypocentral depth of the earthquake was set at 3.1 miles by program. Source: USGS

A 3.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in Georgia this afternoon. The earthquake was centered at 33.183°N, 83.209°W, 7 miles from Milledgeville. I haven’t seen any earthquake reports from the area. A second earthquake occurred just moments ago at 7:22pm EST. The hypocentral depth of both earthquakes was set at almost 5 miles beneath the surface.

A magnitude 2.9 earthquake struck Tortola, British Virgin Islands this afternoon. The earthquake was centered at 18.450°N, 64.642°W. The hypocentral depth was deep, occurring at over 50 miles. When I saw the alert pop up, I couldn’t help but think of Pirates of the Caribbean and wonder if the Black Pearl had made an appearance.
